From October 11 to 15, step on board the Clipper Stad Amsterdam in Copenhagen. For five days, you will be more than a passenger—you will be an active member of the crew aboard this 76-meter tall ship.
Under the guidance of our experienced team, you will learn to steer, navigate, and hoist and trim the sails. You will also help with daily maintenance and keeping the ship in order—because on board, everyone plays a part.
Together with peers your age, you will build teamwork, take on responsibility, and test your limits. Along the way, you will experience authentic life at sea: endless skies, stunning sunrises, and perhaps even dolphins swimming along the bow.
No sailing experience is required—just bring your enthusiasm and a drive to get involved!

On October 11, the captain and crew will be waiting in Copenhagen to welcome you on board. After exploring the ship and settling into your cabin, you will meet the other young people joining you on this adventure. As soon as the safety briefings are complete, the voyage truly begins!
Sailing in Danish Waters
Leaving Copenhagen behind, we set sail into Danish waters. Daytime is all about sail training and ship handling. You will learn to steer, navigate, hoist the sails, climb the rigging, and step out onto the bowsprit. You will also help with daily maintenance and cleaning, you are a real, working member of the crew.
At the end of each day, we look for a scenic anchorage. After an active afternoon on deck, we share a meal together and spend a quiet evening at anchor. The exact route depends entirely on the wind and weather. On October 15, we sail back into Copenhagen harbor.
Weather and Temperatures
October in Denmark can be cool and changeable. Daytime temperatures usually range between 10 and 14 °C, but wind on open water can make it feel much colder. Warm layers and a reliable wind- and waterproof jacket are essential.

Step out of your comfort zone
Step out of your comfort zone: your sailing adventure on the Clipper Stad Amsterdam.
Are you ready for the experience of a lifetime? As a trainee on this mighty ship, you aren’t just a passenger, you work alongside the crew and discover how life at sea really works. You’ll participate in a traditional watch system with four-hour shifts, where discipline and being on time (even at 4:00 AM!) are essential. Together with your team, you’ll learn the ropes: from navigation and steering to hoisting the sails and maintaining the ship.
Out on the open sea, you’ll have no cell service, providing a refreshing ‘social media detox’ and a real connection with the people around you. Working on a three-masted clipper is the ultimate team sport; without good communication and cooperation, you won’t get anywhere. You’ll push your limits in all weather conditions, discovering that you are physically and mentally much stronger than you thought. The skills you learn here – such as responsibility, perseverance, and leadership – will give a massive boost to your future career.
Of course, alongside the hard work, there is plenty of time for relaxation, games, and fun in a safe and positive atmosphere. You’ll return to shore with a huge boost in self-confidence, new friendships, and a backpack full of unique experiences. Are you ready for the adventure?

Trainees and crew eat together in the longroom, where all meals are served buffet-style. Our galley crew whips up simple, varied, and healthy dishes designed to keep your energy levels high. Every meal is a balance of great taste and the nutrients you need to stay sharp and make the most of your time on board.
Since we love structure on board, meal times are synced with the watch system and served in two 30-minute shifts:
07:30 & 08:00 – Breakfast
10:00 – Coffee & juice break
11:30 & 12:00 – Lunch
15:00 – Coffee & juice break
17:30 & 18:00 – Dinner

Bring your passport!
A passport is the standard requirement for our voyages and is strongly preferred. However, do you only have an ID card? For this specific trip, we are making an exception, and you may also board with a valid national identity card.
Always inquire about the rules for the validity and validity period of your passport/ID card for the country you are traveling to. In many countries, a passport is required to be valid for several months beyond the date of entry/departure (and an ID card will not be sufficient).
VISUM
It is crucial and your own responsibility to check and arrange visa requirements for the countries you are traveling to and traveling from.
The best way to determine if you need a visa to enter a specific country is by contacting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Our ship is equipped with satellite tech so you can access the internet while we’re out at sea. You’ll get 200 MB of data per person, per day—plenty for sending updates or checking in with home. But honestly? It’s way more fun to switch your phone off, leave the “real world” behind, and just be fully in the moment.
Heads up: Depending on our course and position, the satellite signal might drop out occasionally. This means a stable internet connection isn’t always guaranteed.

SHIP’S DOCTOR
When booking your trip, we request you to fill out a health declaration. If you provide any specific details here, the ship’s doctor may contact you to discuss your situation. The ship is equipped with a small infirmary. Upon boarding, our ship’s doctor may ask you again to provide them with as much information as possible about your medication use and/or physical limitations, so that they can take this into account.
Doctor onboard
The ship aims to have a doctor on board for multi-day sailing voyages. Your first point of contact on board for your medical inquiries, among other things, is the ship’s doctor.
SAFETY
During the welcome speech, the captain and the designated crew at their muster stations will brief you on safety aboard. Please be aware that the ship is in motion, which can cause items to fall, shift and doors to close. It is advisable to secure your belongings, keep doors closed and never hold onto a door frame.
Some countries require proof of vaccination before they’ll let you cross the border or head back home.
Travel requirements can change often, so we highly recommend checking the latest entry requirements before you set off. !
Before you head out, always double-check the latest travel advice and local rules for your journey to and from the ship. Keeping up with the requirements and getting yourself to the docks on time is your own responsibility.
Pro tip: We strongly recommend arriving in the port city at least one day before boarding. If your flight or train is delayed, we unfortunately can’t push back our departure time. Plus, an extra day gives you the perfect chance to explore the city before we set sail!
Please keep in mind that unfavorable weather conditions, such as too little wind, strong headwinds, or heavy weather, may lead the captain to use the engines, alter departure times, or choose a different port or anchorage. Safety is always our top priority.

October in Denmark is cool and changeable. Sunny spells can quickly turn to cloud, rain, or strong winds. Out on deck, the wind chill often makes it feel colder than the thermometer suggests. Wearing warm layers and a good wind- and waterproof jacket is essential.
Wind Force and Direction
In October, winds across Danish waters can shift quickly in both speed and direction. Calm spells can give way to stronger breezes, especially as weather fronts pass through. The captain reviews conditions daily to adjust the route and select a safe, sheltered anchorage for the evening.
Sailing Intensity
This voyage has an intensity rating of Level 2. We sail primarily through the relatively sheltered waters around Copenhagen and spend our nights at anchor. However, fresher winds and rougher seas will still produce noticeable ship movement. Routes and daily schedules remain flexible to match the conditions.
Clipper Stad Amsterdam is a member of SGR*. Within the limits of the SGR-guarantee arrangement, the multi-day trips published on this internet site are covered by the SGR-guarantee. This legally required guarantee means that consumers are assured that their prepaid travel money will be refunded if the other party (the shipping company) due to financial insolvency cannot fulfill the agreed performance. The travel prices on the website include a contribution to SGR.

Travel Insurance
It is mandatory for all guests onboard to possess personal travel insurance during overnight sailing trips. The required insurance must cover medical expenses, accidents, and repatriation, in accordance with Article 13.9 of the General Terms and Conditions.
