The Route

From lively Barcelona, we set sail for the Côte d’Azur on an unforgettable mini-cruise. As soon as the Clipper leaves the Catalonian coast behind, the true enjoyment of the Mediterranean begins. We sail the open waters, following a beautiful route along the characteristic French coastline, with stopovers in idyllic Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer and fashionable Saint-Tropez, before finally arriving for the ‘Grand Finale’: Nice.

Along the Coast and on Open Water
Sailing the Mediterranean from Spain to France is a diverse experience. We navigate along rugged coastlines but also cross stretches of open water where the horizon seems endless. Keep your camera ready, as dolphins are frequently spotted in these waters, playfully swimming alongside the Clipper’s bow wave. While we head towards Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer and Saint-Tropez, you will enjoy the unique combination of action on deck and relaxation with views of the French Riviera.

Weather Conditions
In June, you can enjoy pleasant temperatures on the Côte d’Azur ranging between 24°C and 28°C, though it can cool down to around 18°C on the open sea in the evening. The winds on the Mediterranean are variable; one moment we are sailing on a calm sea, while picking up a breeze at another moment provides an active sailing experience. Our experienced captain and crew utilize the wind optimally to provide you with the best possible sailing experience on the way to our final destination, Nice.

On the way to…

A spectacular starting point

Start your holiday a day or a few days early and discover the magic of Barcelona before stepping on board. Admire the surreal details of Gaudí’s other masterpieces, such as the undulating facades of Casa Batlló and Casa Milà, before strolling through the elegant Passeig de Gràcia – Barcelona’s most prestigious boulevard – towards the Sagrada Família. In Park Güell, lose yourself in a fairytale world of colorful mosaics, rewarded with panoramic views over the city and the harbor. Settle down at a terrace in the characteristic Port Olímpic and enjoy the views of the skyline and the Mediterranean Sea. Want to see the city from a unique perspective? Take the cable car to Montjuïc hill for a spectacular flight over the harbor and the coastline. A final lunch at the vibrant Boqueria (fresh) market is the perfect last stop before boarding the Clipper Stad Amsterdam.

Barcelona

Anchoring in Provence

After more than a day and a half at sea, we drop anchor around lunchtime on Monday, June 15th, in the tranquil bay of Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer. Here, you trade the vast horizon for the azure waters of the Côte d’Azur and the atmospheric coastline of Provence. While the Clipper Stad Amsterdam lies anchored in the Mediterranean sun, there is plenty of time to enjoy the “good French life.” Take a refreshing dip from the side boarding ladder or hop into the tender for a few hours ashore, where you can wander through the charming marina of Madrague, grab a terrace on the lively boulevard of Les Lecques, or enjoy a stroll along the expansive sandy beach. A fun tip: walk to the village square to admire the original golden replica of New York’s Statue of Liberty – this one was also crafted by Bartholdi himself.

After an afternoon full of new impressions, the tender will bring you back on board. As the sun slowly sets – weather permitting – we set the tables outside on deck for an extensive multi-course dinner. There is no better way to end the day than dining together in the open air, with views over the bay and the lights of the coast in the background.

The following day, we set out together for an exclusive visit to a local historic wine Domaine. During this group excursion, we discover the secrets of Provençal wines during an extensive tasting and enjoy generous platters of local charcuterie and cheeses. Upon your return, another exquisite dinner awaits you on board. As evening falls, the lines are cast off and the Clipper steers toward its next destination: Saint-Tropez.

Saint Cyr-sur-Mer

Legendary allure

After a wonderful day and a half under sail along the French coast, we drop anchor once again on Thursday morning – this time in the world-famous bay of Saint-Tropez! No sailing voyage in this region is complete without a visit to this legendary harbor, where luxury superyachts and authentic fishing boats lie side by side.

The day is yours to discover this fashionable town at your own pace. Our tenders are available all day to take you to the quay or the nearby beaches. Wander through the narrow streets of the old quarter, browse exclusive boutiques, pick up a Tarte Tropézienne, and enjoy the unique blend of fishing-village charm and high-end luxury.

Towards evening, the tender will bring you back to the Clipper for dinner. While we lie at anchor in the bay, weather permitting, we will set the tables outside on deck for an extensive multi-course meal. In this tranquil setting, you can enjoy your dinner while overlooking the illuminated coastline of Saint-Tropez.

The following morning, Friday, June 19th, we set sail after breakfast for our final destination.

Saint Tropez

The Grand Finale

Nice (The Grand Finale)! We sail past the rugged red rocks of the Esterel Mountains towards the capital of the Côte d’Azur. During this final stretch at sea, the focus returns to sailing and life on board. You can help with the sails, chat with the crew, or simply enjoy the passing coastline from the deck. Meals are served buffet-style in the Longroom, and on the last evening, we gather here to conclude the voyage with an extra festive dinner.

On Saturday morning, we sail into the port of Nice for one last breakfast together on board. Sadly, this brings a beautiful sailing voyage to an inevitable close. After saying goodbye to the Clipper and her crew, you might still have time to discover beautiful Nice. Upon arrival, enjoy the atmospheric harbor, famous for its colorful architecture and authentic fishing boats, or get lost in the narrow alleys of Vieux Nice with its hidden boutiques. Visit the flower market on the Cours Saleya, stroll along the iconic Promenade des Anglais, or enjoy the views from the Colline du Château. Art lovers can indulge themselves at the Matisse and Chagall museums. Looking for total relaxation? The world-famous beach clubs on the characteristic pebble beaches are the perfect spot for a splendid finish by the azure sea.

Nice

Sailing adventure & Mediterranean luxury

During this mini-cruise, you will experience the unique combination of an authentic sailing ship and the relaxation of a luxury holiday. As we set course for the French Riviera, you will get to know the many facets of sailing a square-rigged vessel. The crew warmly invites you to roll up your sleeves: help set the sails or learn the basics of navigation. This is how you truly experience the power of the wind in the masts.

Do you prefer total relaxation? Then find a nice spot on deck to unwind as the coastline slowly drifts by. Whenever we are at an idyllic anchorage, you will have the chance to take a refreshing dip in the Mediterranean or go ashore for a visit. A voyage where adventure on the open sea and the luxury of the French coast blend seamlessly.

Our ship is equipped with satellite technology to provide Wi-Fi connectivity during your journey. The shipping company offers 200 MB of data per person per day for sending and receiving data. Please note that the connection may be slower compared to onshore services.
If you require additional data, you can purchase an extra 200 MB package for €20.
Keep in mind that depending on the ship’s course, there may be times when the satellite signal is unavailable, and therefore, internet connectivity cannot be guaranteed.

Friends and family at home can always track the live location of the ship through our website (homepage).

SHIP’S DOCTOR
When booking your trip, we request you to fill out a health declaration. If you provide any specific details here, the ship’s doctor may contact you to discuss your situation. Based on observations or strong suspicions of a limited physical condition and associated risks, the ship’s doctor may advise the captain to exclude you as a passenger from the voyage. The final decision rests with the captain. The ship is equipped with a small infirmary. Upon boarding, our ship’s doctor may ask you again to provide him with as much information as possible about your medication use and/or physical limitations, so that he can take this into account.
ARE YOU 70 – 75 YEARS OR OLDER AT THE START OF THE TRIP?
In addition to maintaining good physical condition, we especially want to emphasize to our guests aged 70 and older that having sufficient muscle strength and balance is essential.
To ensure that all our guests are well-prepared for the sailing experience aboard the Clipper, the following guidelines apply to travelers aged 70 and older:
INFORMATIONAL VIDEO FOR GUESTS 70+
All passengers aged 70 and older will receive a video showcasing the intensity and movements of the Clipper in various weather conditions. This will help you understand what to expect during the voyage and determine if this is suitable for you.
MEDICAL APPROVAL – CERTIFIED PHYSICIAN
For all of our guests who are 75 years or older at the start of the trip, a medical examination for maritime purposes is required by a certified doctor affiliated with an authorized institution in the Netherlands or a comparable institution abroad for non-Dutch guests (the costs are at your expense, and are expected to be between 105 and 160 euros). This concerns the declaration ‘without lookout and watch duties on the bridge’. Without this declaration, participation is not possible. We are happy to provide you with further information.
BOOKING PROCESS FOR GUESTS 75+ GUESTS
Once your booking is received, you will receive an email with detailed instructions on the medical approval process.
The email will include a list of approved medical examiners and guidelines on how to arrange the required medical examination. Once approved by a certified medical examiner, the booking process will proceed and be finalized. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
DOCTOR ONBOARD
The shipping company aims to have a doctor on board for multi-day sailing voyages. Your first point of contact on board for your medical inquiries, among other things, is the ship’s doctor.
SAFETY
During the welcome speech, the captain and the designated crew at their muster stations will brief you on safety aboard. Please be aware that the ship is in motion, which can cause items to fall, shift and doors to close. It is advisable to secure your belongings, keep doors closed and never hold onto a door frame.

Some countries require proof of vaccination for travellers wishing to enter or exit the country.
Travel requirements are updated often, so we recommend always checking the latest entry requirements before your trip.

We would like to remind you that you should always stay informed about and adhere to the travel advisories applicable to travel to and from the ship. These travels are your own responsibility.

It is recommended that you arrive at the port of embarkation one day prior to the scheduled embarkation. This precaution is advised because the ship cannot delay its departure in the event of travel disruptions. In addition, traveling to our next port of call may not be feasible due to long trips at sea or remote islands.

On your embarkation day, while the ship is in port, we provide the opportunity to drop off your luggage in the morning. Should you wish to take advantage of this service, please notify us in advance ([email protected]) to ensure that access to the ship is arranged before the official embarkation time.

Please keep in mind that unfavorable weather conditions (e.g., lack or excess wind) may cause the captain to decide to sail on engine power, enter or exit a port earlier/later.

Temperatures
In June, you can enjoy pleasant temperatures on the Côte d’Azur ranging between 24°C and 28°C. However, as soon as the sun sets and we head out into open waters, it often cools down significantly to around 18°C.

Wind Strength and Direction
The winds on the Mediterranean are variable; both strength and direction can shift throughout the day. At times, we will sail on a calm sea, while at other moments, a picking-up breeze may provide more movement and a truly active sailing experience.

Intensity (Ship Movement)
This voyage is rated Level 2 due to the possibility of varying sea conditions. Although we often sail along the coast, local winds can create an active sailing environment where the movement of the ship is noticeable. This level indicates that you will occasionally need to keep your balance on board, giving the journey a truly authentic nautical character.

Clipper Stad Amsterdam is a member of SGR*. Within the limits of the SGR-guarantee arrangement, the multi-day trips published on this internet site are covered by the SGR-guarantee. This legally required guarantee means that consumers are assured that their prepaid travel money will be refunded if the other party (the shipping company) due to financial insolvency cannot fulfill the agreed performance.
