BOOK NOWIf you are looking for an active and adventurous vacation where you can learn new skills, make social connections and be outdoors in the most beautiful places, this trip is perfect for you!
Feel the wind in your hair, smell the fresh ocean air and taste the salt on your lips after a day of sailing aboard the Clipper. No two days are the same, so you get to discover the many aspects of sailing. A whole world awaits.
Of course, as a sailing ship we depend on a number of factors such as the weather, the route and the length of the trip. When the wind is favourable, the sails are hoisted and you learn to sail on a square-rigged ship. The crew will be happy to show you all the different sides of sailing!
Are you well ready to go on board? Read more information about the Clipper here!
We definitely recommend signing up to join on watch during one of the three shifts managed by the crew, to discover what real life on board the ship is like. This way you get to experience what it is like to sail a three-master. Setting sails, keeping the lookout, charting a route and helping with the daily operations, you will do it all. Also assist the crew with maintenance on board and get to know the ship in detail. There are plenty of chances to join in.
The shifts you can sign up for are as follows…. If you are on the red watch, you will enjoy the serenity of the high seas and the endless starry skies at night. On the white watch, you will be blown by a spectacular sunrise and if you are on the blue watch, chances are the sails are about to be set.
Read more about being on watch in the practical information.
Rest assured, for every group of guests that joins us on board there are always plenty of people getting to know the world of sailing for the first time.
A sailing vacation aboard the Clipper is the most beautiful and fun way to discover sailing in a nice, accessible way. You decide to what extent you take part in sailing activities. Fanatical? Then we will see you on watch. Looking to take it easy? Help set the sails on deck and then get back to reading your book again. You set the pace.
Depending on how far your own interest extends, you can delve deeper into the theory. Learn some basic knots, climb into the ropes to hoist the sails or see if you can learn more about navigating. It’s entirely up to you!

The ship has modern communications equipment that allows the use of phones and e-mail on board. Up to about 3 miles offshore, everyone’s mobile phone will continue to work. After that, a satellite connection is required to make phone calls. Call charges in that case are €2.50 per minute (for urgent calls only).
The satellite system on board also allows limited Internet through Wi-Fi. However, the connection is slower than you are used to on land. All our guests can send and/or receive 50MB daily at the shipping company’s expense. There is also an option to purchase additional MBs on board. Please keep in mind that depending on the course set there is a possibility that the satellite connection is poor or not working at all. Therefore, it is not guaranteed that you can use the Internet on board at all times.
When booking your trip, we ask you to complete a health declaration. If you provide details on this, the ship’s doctor can contact you to discuss your situation. Based on observations or strong suspicion of a very limited physical condition and related risks, the ship’s doctor may advise the captain to exclude you as a passenger from the voyage. The final decision in this respect lies with the captain. The ship is equipped with a (small) hospital. Our ship’s doctor may ask you again when meeting you on board to inform them as clearly about your use of medication and/or physical limitations, so they can take this into account.
On multi-day sailing trips, there is usually a doctor on board. They will also be able to provide medication against seasickness. Your first point of contact on the ship for any medical questions, among others, is the first officer.
During the welcome speech, the first officer will brief you on safety aboard the ship. Keep in mind after departing that the ship is in motion and therefore things can fall over, slide around, and doors can slam shut. It is advisable to stow your belongings away and not to leave doors open, or in any case never to lean against a doorpost for too long.
Currently, there are no restrictions or vaccination requirements related to COVID-19. However, keeping up-to-date with (booster) vaccinations is still recommended by authorities worldwide.
The safety of our guests and crew has the highest priority. As part of the prevention of contamination, Clipper Stad Amsterdam as an international passenger ship is not only bound to the measures prescribed by the Dutch government and the RIVM but also to the global measures in place for international passenger ships.
We point out that you should at all times be aware of, and act according to, the travel advice that applies to the journeys to and from the ship. This part of the trip is your own responsibility.
For more information on flights and tickets, visit www.skyscanner.com.
Please keep in mind that unfavourable weather conditions (e.g. insufficient or excess wind) may cause the captain to decide to sail on engine power, or enter/exit a port earlier or later than scheduled.
The ship’s crew stand watch in three shifts. These shifts are called the Red Watch (from 12- 4 AM and PM), the White Watch (from 4-8 AM and PM) and the Blue Watch (from 8-12 AM and PM).
We welcome you to join one of these watches. This way you can fully experience how things work on a ship like the Clipper Stad Amsterdam. Setting or furling the sails, keeping the lookout, setting the course or standing watch: you can take part in it all.
As a member of the Red Watch, you can enjoy the peace and quiet of being at sea and the endless starry skies. On the White Watch, you will experience the break of dawn like you never have before, whilst the Blue Watch means can still enjoy the sailing while maintaining a regular day and night rhythm.
Clipper Stad Amsterdam is a member of SGR. Within the limits of the SGR-guarantee arrangement, the multi-day trips published on this website are covered by the SGR-guarantee.
