AMSTERDAM, August 12, 2025 – After an extraordinary two-year journey around the globe, Clipper Stad Amsterdam will return to her homeport. For the opening of SAIL Amsterdam, she’ll be serving as the flagship for the SAIL-In Parade on Wednesday, 20 August, leading the fleet into Amsterdam.
During the World Tour, more than 7,500 guests were welcomed on board in iconic ports and cities along the way – for unforgettable evening events, day trips, and sailing adventures. A staggering 67,500 nautical miles were covered as sustainably as possible, using wind and tides for over 60% of the time. The World Tour program began in August 2023 with an impactful youth trip from IJmuiden to Porto and is also being wrapped up with two groups of young adventurers. Alongside the crew, they are sailing the Clipper from the Azores via Lorient in France and back to IJmuiden in the Netherlands.

This year, the city of Amsterdam celebrates her 750th birthday with the 10th edition of SAIL. On Wednesday 20 August, Clipper Stad Amsterdam will lead the SAIL-In Parade for the opening of SAIL 2025. The Clipper will be moored alongside Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ.
The World Tour program welcomed over 7500 guests
In iconic cities like San Francisco, Yokohama, Shanghai, Sydney, Mumbai, Cape Town and New York, more than 100 events were organised in collaboration with partners Randstad and the Municipality of Amsterdam, and many other companies. Over 7,500 guests, including cruisers and adventurers, joined the World Tour for unforgettable events, day trips, and voyages across the seven seas, fulfilling long-held dreams. From visiting remote islands to tropical archipelagos, and crossing the legendary Panama Canal. The two-year World Tour included five ocean crossings and covered a staggering 67,500 nautical miles, carried by wind and tides for over 60% of the time.
Impactful youth trips
The Clipper departed in August 2023 with 30 youngsters who joined the crew from IJmuiden to Porto. These young individuals aged 18-27 and from all walks of life, enjoyed a unique opportunity to gain invaluable experience on board. On the final two legs of the World Tour, the crew is once again joined by young people, sailing the Clipper via Lorient in France back to IJmuiden in the Netherlands.
Jacoba Bolderheij, recently appointed as director of the Clipper, shares her thoughts on the impact of these trips: ‘Stad Amsterdam has welcomed young people on board every year since her first voyage in 2000, giving them a unique and unforgettable experience. During these journeys, they develop valuable (soft) skills that significantly enhance their personal growth and self-awareness. I’m convinced that Clipper Stad Amsterdam is a fantastic platform for personal development and leadership growth for talents around the world.’
Bolderheij adds: ‘The tour has been a tremendous effort. We cannot be thankful enough to the crew on board and the team at the office. Together they really pulled it off. And we owe it to my predecessor Evert van Dishoeck to be forever grateful for the dedication and love he has put into the ship; not only during the world tour but for nearly ten years.’
