CIRCUMNAVIGATING THE GLOBE FOR THE SDG WORLD TOUR

From 2020 - 2022 the Clipper will circumnavigate the globe to support the SDG World Tour, an initiative that is created by young people for young people.

SDG WORLD TOUR 2020 - 2022 
The SDG World Tour will raise awareness and accelerate the progression of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals by sailing the Clipper Stad Amsterdam to 17 different places around the world starting in Amsterdam in August 2020 and ending at the headquarters of the UN in NYC in September 2022.

KICK OFF IN NEW YORK CITY 
On April 9, the kickoff of the SDG World Tour was held on board the Clipper Stad Amsterdam in New York City at Chelsea Piers. The first Youth Mayor of Amsterdam Avianka Aventurin was handing over the official flag of the SDG World Tour to Alison Smale of the United Nations. Mrs Femke Halsema, the Mayor of the City of Amsterdam, gave the opening speech.

CLIPPER EMBRACES SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL #14

The Shipping Company Clipper Stad Amsterdam is proud to be involved with the SDG World Tour as it moves around the world for two years as their worldwide platform, visiting 17 places, countries and cities of importance. The Clipper Stad Amsterdam embraces the UN SDG #14 for Life below water. 
 

REFIT PERIOD IN THE NETHERLANDS

In preparation of the SDG World Tour the Clipper will undergo major refit works during the winter of 2019-2020. Evert van Dishoeck, director of the Clipper explains that this is a big transformation while docked in The Netherlands: "We will get new generators and a new main engine will be installed to meet efficiency and future emission requirements. To comply with upcoming legislation a new wastewater treatment system will be implemented. Next to this more efficient and cleaner energy package, the rig will be thoroughly inspected and a new galley will be built in as well."

Clipper Stad Amsterdam - ABOUT THE CLIPPER STAD AMSTERDAM

The Clipper Stad Amsterdam originates from the mid-nineties when she was built in joint venture cooperation with the Municipality of Amsterdam and Randstad. During the build many young people learned and developed crafts, worked and got the opportunity to enter the labour market with more skills. After completion in the summer of 2000 the Clipper has been the Municipalities Flagship during the SAIL AMSTERDAM events and sailed the seven seas and frequently visited many interesting places, countries and cities where she served as a hospitality and marketing accommodation and conducted many luxury and adventurous sailing holidays.
