The 5 most fun things to do in Havana

After 8 days at sea learning all about sailing a full rigged ship we plan to arrive in Havana. Visit the historic center with famous monuments and beautiful architecture, enjoy the old-timer cars in the streets and the music on almost every street corner.  Out of a long list of fun things to do in Havana our 5 best!

1. Fun in Old Havana

Explore Old Havana and Central Havana on foot. Spend a few hours or longer when possible in each location. In Old Havana there will be tourists around and the language spoken is English but it is all part of the experience. Drink a mojito like you never tasted before in the heart of the old town and dance to live Cuban music at nighttime.

2. Stroll along El Malécon
This lengthy seafront boulevard is a great place to take a late afternoon stroll, and you’ll find plenty of locals doing the same, especially as the sun sets and romantic couples are sitting on the sea wall. Watch the Cadillacs roll by as the fishermen haul in their catch of the day. Taste the vibe and enjoy in peace.

3.Visit a cigar factory
A must on any visit to the island is a visit to a traditional Cuban cigar factory. Not too far from central Havana you will see teams of skilled workers skilfully picking the best leaves and hand-rolling perfect cigars in seconds. Notice the wonderful smell of the factory – the drying leaves create a somewhat sweet aroma that you’ll never forget.

4. FOLLOW IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF ERNEST HEMINGWAY

The most famous writer's favourite seat in one of the bars in Havana has a velvet rope nowadays to honor him. You can also visit the room he first lived in in Havana at the Ambos Mundos Hotel, where he started to writeFor Whom the Bell Tolls. Outside of town, his home, Finca Vigia, has also been preserved just as he left it, so you can check out his desk and imagine him writing The Old Man and the Sea which was written there.

5. Explore Plaza de la Revolución
Take an old American car mostly used as taxis and found everywhere in Havana and do not forget to stop at the impressively huge main square: Plaza de la Revolucíon. Check out the huge portraits of Che Guevara and Fidel Castro, and the giant 109 meter tower in the centre of the square. You can ride the lift to the top for spectacular views of Havana.
