The Clipper spent most of the summer in her home waters in Northern Europe but it was still quite a busy one! One of the highlights of our summer was a special visit to the Rotterdam World Port Days in The Netherlands. The kick off for SAIL Amsterdam next summer is also one to mention.
On the 26th of August, the Mayor of Amsterdam Mrs. Femke Halsema, Royal Highness Prince Maurits and all involved maritime industry members kicked off the 10th edition of SAIL Amsterdam. We’re very proud to be the flagship again and lead the impressive Sail In parade of more than 600 ships sailing towards Amsterdam. Millions of people will visit our homeport to watch all the ships go by. It's the largest public event of the Netherlands and the tenth edition will take place from 12 until 16 August 2020. The countdown has started and we can’t wait!
On the last day of SAIL Amsterdam 2020 the Clipper leaves her homeport Amsterdam for two years. This is the day we start our trip around the world as ambassador for the SDG World Tour. At the office in Amsterdam and on board we’re currently in the stage of finalising the last preparations for the refit in The Netherlands in order to prepare the clipper for this trip. The Clipper will be at the Willemsoord historic harbour in Den Helder in de period from the 1st of November until the 31st of April 2020.
You can find us in one of the dry docks outside. The refit includes replacement of the main engine and generators to improve our efficiency and become more and more sustainable. I will write another blog on all our other sustainability plans and ideas later this year.
At the moment, the Clipper is in Ostende and after that we’ll head to London! In October we will visit Hamburg and Amsterdam. For sailing enthusiasts it’s an unforgettable experience to be on board during one of these short trips. If you’re interested you can find more information on our website.
As soon as we arrive in the port of Amsterdam our crew transforms the Clipper from delivery modus into hospitality modus for the business and social events we organize for different companies and partners of the Clipper. We’re looking forward to have you on board when you're one of their guests!
