After your arrival at the international airport in Panama City you may have time for a stroll through "Casco Viejo". This 341 year old Spanish colonial sector & UNESCO World Heritage Site certainly is worth a visit!

Sailing through the Panama Canal on board the Clipper will be one of the highlights of this luxury sailing trip. Memorable also will be sailing on the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico as well as visiting the tropical island Cozumel off the coast of Mexico.

The sun, warm temperatures, excellent food and fantastic sailing will make this an unforgettable holiday. Be part of this special journey with the Clipper Stad Amsterdam exploring new horizons.

In the harbor of Balboa, the captain and his crew welcome you on board and a delicious dinner is served after your embarkation.

Day 2 - 3: Sailing the Panama Canal
Soon after your arrival on board the moment has come for the Clipper Stad Amsterdam to sail the Panama Canal for the second time since her maiden trip in the summer of 2000. This time the sailing will start in the Pacific and end in the Atlantic Ocean.

The Panama Canal, one of the world's largest construction projects, opened for traffic in 1914. Enjoy passing under the Bridge of the Americas in the Gulf of Panama near Panama City, cross Miraflores Lake, enter the Pedro Miguel Lock, passing under the Centennial Bridge, navigating around Barro Colorado Island near Gatun lake to finally arrive at Colón.

Some facts:
Length: 81 kilometers/ 44 Nautical Miles
Width: between 70 and 300 meters
Locks: 305 meters in length and 33,53 meters in width.
In 2016 the Panama Canal was expanded for bigger ships.

Day 9: Exploring the island Cozumel
The tropical island of Cozumel is Mexico's largest Caribbean island located about 20 kilometers from the mainland. The island is very popular with scuba diving enthusiasts. One of the world's largest reefs is the coral reef on the coast of Cozumel! The island also has many archaeological sites of Mayan origin to offer that can be visited daily. In this context San Gervasio is worth mentioning.

At the Chankanaab (National) Park, also called Little Sea, you can snorkel, scuba dive, swim with dolphins and admire schools of tropical fish. A natural lagoon is located inside the park and is surrounded by ruins of ancient Mayan civilizations. Mangrove forests and white sandy beaches with beautiful coral reefs can be explored in "Faro Celarain Eco Park" on the southernmost tip of Cozumel. This ecological reserve is the largests on the island and includes 220 bird species, iguanas and sea turtles. A museum and an old lighthouse can be visited as well.

Would you like to go to the mainland of Mexico instead? By ferry it will only take fifteen minutes to reach the famous seaside resort Playa del Carmen. On the "Quinta Avenida" where cars are not allowed you will find many shops, bars and restaurants. Beautiful white sandy beaches are only a stone's throw away.

If you prefer, our hospitality manager will be more than happy to assist you with the booking of a guided tour or excursions. He will answer all of your questions to make the 24 hours in Cozumel extra special.
