On the North Sea

A number of sailing trips are organized by the Clipper Stad Amsterdam every year. Whether you are an experienced sailor or not, we are pleased to invite you to join the crew on one of these adventurous sailing holidays.

This 3-day sailing adventure starts in Scheveningen, a seaside resort which is located near the city of The Hague in The Netherlands. Scheveningen with well known landmarks such as "Scheveningen Pier" and the famous Kurhaus Hotel has an abundance of attractions.

On the morning of July 3rd the tourists on the beach will be able to witness the Clipper Stad Amsterdam slowly disappear on the horizon. Your sailing adventure has begun!

You are invited to help and set sails on deck or perhaps help out at a somewhat higher position in one of the three masts. Maybe you prefer feeling the wind in your hair on the foredeck while you are enjoying all the beauty that lays ahead. On board the Clipper Stad Amsterdam there are many possibilities! With her 76 meters in length, 31 sails and 2200 m2 of sail this sailing ship will certainly impress you.

Port of Hamburg

After 3 days of sailling on the North Sea the Clipper will arrive at the bustling heart of Hamburg via the river "Elbe". Our tallship will be moored at the famous Überseebrucke.

Hamburg is a wonderful city to explore. It is the second largest city in Germany and also the main port. Afer debarkation you can visit the warehouses in "Speicherstadt", the museums, churches and other historical buildings, the "Reeperbahn" at night or wander in the many shops Hamburg has to offer.

We hope you experienced a sailing trip which will not easily be forgotten!

Sailing and watches

The ship’s crew stand watch in three shifts. These shifts are called the Red Watch (from 12- 4 AM and PM), the White Watch (from 4-8 AM and PM) and the Blue Watch (from 8-12 AM and PM).

We welcome you to join one of these watches. This way you can fully experience how things work on a ship like the Stad Amsterdam. Setting or furling the sails, keeping lookout, setting the course or standing watch: you can participate in all of it.

As a member of the Red Watch you can enjoy the peacefulness of being at sea and the endless starry sky. In the White Watch you will experience the break of dawn like you never did before, whilst in the Blue Watch you can enjoy the sailing while maintaining a regular day and night rhythm.

An unforgettable experience

The meals are enjoyed together with the crew in the longroom at times adjusted to the watches. Every night the captain will give a short briefing of the mileage achieved on the day before, the mileage still to go and any other points of interest.

Imagine standing on the lookout surrounded by nothing but the sea. The waves, being rough every now and then, maybe some other ships and sometimes even dolphins playfully dancing just ahead of the bow. On the other hand, one could also relax reading a book in the long room. We have a well-stocked library on board.

Altogether ingredients for an unforgettable experience!
