On the North Sea

Have you always wanted to sail on a historic sailing ship? This adventurous sailing trip will be a wonderful opportunity to do so! The voyage will start in the very trendy and interesting town of Newcastle with its impressive bridges and a genuine remnant of the ancient Roman Hadrian's Wall.

On Monday late in the afternoon you will board the Clipper for the crossing to the Continent. During a tasty meal in the longroom you will meet the crew. Once on the North Sea the actual sailing will begin! Enjoy being on deck hoisting the sails and standing on lookout. Or climb to the top in our main mast ....

Überseebrucke quay

After 4 days at sea we will arrive at the Elbe river bringing us into Hamburg and to the Überseebrucke, a very centrally located and excellent berth location. The estimated time of arrival will be around noon which will offer you the opportunity to explore this second largest city of Germany. Visit the warehouses in "Speicherstadt", the museums, churches and other historical buildings, enjoy a terrace along the "Alster" or wander in the many shops Hamburg has to offer.

The captain's dinner on board on this last night will probably be a welcome break after an afternoon full of impressions. The next morning your sailing adventure will come to an end. No doubt you will have had a fantastic experience not easily forgotten!

Sailing and watches

The ship’s crew stand watch in three shifts. These shifts are called the Red Watch (from 12- 4 AM and PM), the White Watch (from 4-8 AM and PM) and the Blue Watch (from 8-12 AM and PM).

We welcome you to join one of these watches. This way you can fully experience how things work on a ship like the Stad Amsterdam. Setting or furling the sails, keeping lookout, setting the course or standing watch: you can participate in all of it.

As a member of the Red Watch you can enjoy the peacefulness of being at sea and the endless starry sky. In the White Watch you will experience the break of dawn like you never did before, whilst in the Blue Watch you can enjoy the sailing while maintaining a regular day and night rhythm.

An unforgettable experience

The meals are enjoyed together with the crew in the longroom at times adjusted to the watches. Every night the captain will give a short briefing of the mileage achieved on the day before, the mileage still to go and any other points of interest.

Imagine standing on the lookout surrounded by nothing but the sea. The waves, being rough every now and then, maybe some other ships and sometimes even dolphins playfully dancing just ahead of the bow. On the other hand, one could also relax reading a book in the long room. We have a well-stocked library on board.

Altogether ingredients for an unforgettable experience!
