The Clipper Stad Amsterdam as an international passenger ship is still bound by the COVID measures prescribed by the Dutch government and the measures that still apply worldwide onboard international passenger ships. We offer you a 100% refund guarantee concerning the travel sum paid to us if it would not be possible to carry out the trip or if other unforeseen COVID-19-related situations of force majeure occur, which would force us to cancel the trip.

Along with the trade winds

We organise adventurous sailing holidays and luxury sailing cruises. In April and December, we sail across the Atlantic. Leaving on December 13 this year!

The true sailing enthusiast will for sure get what he or she is looking for on this Atlantic Ocean crossing. Dolphins tumbling near the ship’s bow, astonishing clouds, colourful rainbows and amazing sunrises and sunsets. The feeling of tranquil and freedom the open sea provides will make you feel small and special at the same time. A unique chance to admire the Clipper in all her glory.

You're free to sign up for one of the watches to experience what it is like to sail the ship. Stand on the lookout, at the helm, perform all kinds of sailing operations, learn about the rigging and navigation and if you like you can even lend a hand with the maintenance work that is always there on a tall ship.

Leaving Las Palmas

On Tuesday, December 13th we welcome you onboard in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. You'll find the Clipper in the northeast of the island amidst two beautiful bays with wonderful beaches. The capital city Las Palmas is worth exploring and may serve as an ideal starting point for visits to the villages and sights in northern Gran Canaria.

We leave the harbor after spending the first night on board and sail non-stop to Sint Maarten in about 20 days.

This year's crossing promises to be unique. Not only will you celebrate Christmas sailing, but you will also celebrate New Year's Eve onboard. You can enjoy a festive dinner and an appetizing Christmas breakfast together with the crew during the holiday season.

Sea all around

Imagine standing on the lookout surrounded by nothing but the sea. Enjoy the peace and quietness around you, be completely disconnected from your maybe sometimes hectic life at home.

The waves, the sea being rough now and then, maybe some other ships and sometimes even dolphins playfully dancing just ahead of the bow and the experience of feeling so insignificant in the overwhelming nature.

The meals are enjoyed together with the crew in the longroom at times adjusted to the watches. Every night the captain will give a short briefing of the mileage achieved on a preceding day, the mileage still to go, and any other points of interest.

As part of the presentation, guests are able to share photos, and some guests like to share stories. If so, you may use a laptop, projector, and screen.

Sailing and watches

The ship’s crew stand watch in three shifts. These shifts are called the Red Watch (from 12- 4 AM and PM), the White Watch (from 4-8 AM and PM) and the Blue Watch (from 8-12 AM and PM).

We welcome you to join one of these watches. This way you can fully experience how things work on a ship like the Stad Amsterdam. Setting or furling the sails, keeping the lookout, setting the course or standing watch: you can participate in all of it.

As a member of the Red Watch, you can enjoy the peacefulness of being at sea and the endless starry sky. In the White Watch, you will experience the break of dawn like you never did before, whilst in the Blue Watch, you can enjoy the sailing while maintaining a regular day and night rhythm.

Arrival at Sint Maarten

As we approach Sint Maarten, our final destination after over 2700 nautical miles non-stop, we are nearing the turn of the year. In the event of favourable winds, we may be able to anchor in a beautiful bay to celebrate New Year's Eve. We are looking forward to an enjoyable evening for you and the crew. New Year's Day can be spent swimming and relaxing.

On the following morning the crew will say goodbye to you after breakfast, and in Philipsburg this sailing adventure will come to an end.

Do you have some extra time to visit the island of Sint Maarten? The French part in the north has a more Mediterranean character, but the Dutch part of the island is also worth spending a few days. There are many beautiful sandy beaches everywhere on the island and a great variety of restaurants as well serving tasty Caribbean dishes.

Visiting Sint Maarten can only be a perfect end to this Atlantic Ocean crossing.
We hope that you can look back on a memorable experience!
