The Clipper Stad Amsterdam as an international passenger ship is bound by the measures prescribed by the Dutch government and the measures that apply worldwide onboard international passenger ships.

We offer you a 100% refund guarantee concerning the travel sum paid to us if it would not be possible to carry out the trip or if other unforeseen COVID-19-related situations of force majeure occur, which would force us to cancel the trip.

Along with the trade winds

Are you a true sailing fan and dreaming about a sailing holiday on board the Clipper Stad Amsterdam? We organise adventurous sailing holidays and luxury sailing cruises. In April and December, we sail across the Atlantic.

The true sailing enthusiast will for sure get what he or she is looking for on this Atlantic Ocean crossing. The dolphins tumbling near the ship’s bow, astonishing clouds, colourful rainbows, the amazing sunrises and sunsets but also the peacefulness and the feeling of freedom that the open sea provides will make you relive the old days. A unique chance to admire the Clipper in all her glory.

You can sign up for one of three watches to experience what it is like to sail the ship. Be on the lookout, at the helm, perform all kinds of sailing operations, learn about the rigging and navigation and if you like you can even lend a hand with the maintenance work that is always there on a tall ship.

Practical Information

Leaving Las Palmas (Gran Canaria)

On Tuesday, November 30th we welcome you onboard the Clipper Stad Amsterdam in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The berth location of the Clipper is located in the northeast of the island amidst two beautiful bays with wonderful beaches. The capital city Las Palmas is worth exploring and may serve as an ideal starting point for visits to the villages and sights in northern Gran Canaria.

We leave the port the next morning to sail to Martinique non-stop on the open sea for 18 days.

Sea all around

Imagine standing on the lookout surrounded by nothing but the sea. The waves, being rough every now and then, maybe some other ships and sometimes even dolphins playfully dancing just ahead of the bow. On the other hand, one could also relax reading a book in the long room. We have a well-stocked library on board.

The meals are enjoyed together with the crew in the longroom at times adjusted to the watches. Every evening (weather permitting) after dinner the captain will give a presentation in the longroom about the sailing route of that day, the weather forecasts and the route of the next day. During the presentation, there is also an opportunity to view some of the best photos of the day, taken by you or by our crew.
Would you like to give a lecture or presentation that is entertaining and/or informative? In that case, a laptop, projector and screen are at your disposal.

Sailing and watches

The ship’s crew stand watch in three shifts. These shifts are called the Red Watch (from 12- 4 AM and PM), the White Watch (from 4-8 AM and PM) and the Blue Watch (from 8-12 AM and PM).

We welcome you to join one of these watches. This way you can fully experience how things work on a ship like the Stad Amsterdam. Setting or furling the sails, keeping the lookout, setting the course or standing watch: you can participate in all of it.

As a member of the Red Watch, you can enjoy the peacefulness of being at sea and the endless starry sky. In the White Watch, you will experience the break of dawn like you never did before, whilst in the Blue Watch, you can enjoy the sailing while maintaining a regular day and night rhythm.

Arrival at Martinique

On Saturday, December 18, the Clipper Stad Amsterdam will reach Martinique.
A distance of more than 2700 miles has been covered!

The next morning our captain and his crew will say goodbye to you. We hope this ocean crossing has been an unforgettable experience for you.

White sands, palm trees, and creole flavour... that is Martinique for you
A visit to this island can only be a perfect end to this Atlantic Ocean crossing.

Clipper Stad Amsterdam & COVID-19
We hereby like to inform you that the safety of our guests and our crew is of the highest priority and that we follow up closely with all of the developments and the measures taken by the Dutch government concerning the coronavirus.
In the context of the prevention of contamination with the COVID-19 (corona) virus, the Clipper Stad Amsterdam as an international passenger ship is bound by the measures prescribed by the Dutch government and the measures that apply worldwide onboard international passenger ships.
To create a safe and responsible environment onboard - where keeping a distance of 1.5 meters is not always possible - sailing is only possible for guests and crew with a vaccination certificate and a valid negative PCR test (note: any costs are for your own account).*
Full vaccination 2 weeks before the start of the trip is mandatory for participation in this trip. To gain access to the ship, you must also have a negative result of a PCR test with an international travel certificate or a NAAT (PCR) test with an international travel certificate and not older than 72 hours. Please note that an antigen rapid test (with or without an international travel certificate) will not suffice.
In unforeseen COVID-19-related situations involving force majeure, we offer a 100% refund guarantee concerning the travel sum paid to us. For all other - non-COVID - reasons to cancel, our usual terms and conditions apply. Taking out travel insurance is mandatory at all times on all our sailing trips.

Unfavourable weather conditions & maintenance
Please note that due to unfavourable weather conditions (e.g. lack of wind or too much wind) the captain may decide to proceed under engine power and/or arrive at or depart from a harbour either sooner or later. During our adventurous sailing trips, the crew of the Stad Amsterdam is also occupied with the continuous maintenance program of the Clipper. A part of life on board of the Tall Ships as well. Should you wish to help, this is welcome but certainly not a must.

Flight suggestions:
Please be advised that you must at all times be aware of and act by the travel advice and the corona measures that apply when you are travelling to and from the ship.
Travelling to the ship and/or home is your own responsibility.
There are several flight opportunities for very attractive prices to Las Palmas and also from Martinique to many places all over the world.
