A number of sailing trips are organized by the Clipper Stad Amsterdam every year. Whether you are an experienced sailor or not, we are more than pleased to invite you to join the crew on one of these adventurous sailing holidays.

Have you always wanted to sail on a historic sailing ship? This adventurous sailing trip will be a wonderful opportunity to do so! On Saturday evening, July 14th the captain and the crew will welcome you in the harbor of Hamburg.

The metropolitan harbor town Hamburg suffered much damage in World War II, yet the old town center as well as the newly built downtown area are worth discovering. Where once prominent merchants traded in coffee, tea and spices in beautiful commercial and residential buildings out of earlier centuries, special restaurants and cafes can be found nowadays. The city also has many, often exclusive, (fashion) shops to offer.

The next morning the actual sailing will begin! Enjoy being on deck hoisting the sails and standing on lookout. Or climb to the top in our main mast ....

around denmark

For 5 days on this unique sailing trip you will be sailing on the river Elbe to the North Sea and along the west coast of Denmark to the northernmost point (Skagen) where the North Sea and the Baltic Sea collide. The Clipper Stad Amsterdam then continues her voyage along the Danish east coast and on Kattegat to the port of Lübeck-Travemünde.

After the captain's dinner and a last night on board in one of our 14 comfortable cabins, this sailing adventure will come to an end on Fridaymorning, July 20. This fantastic experience will not easily be forgotten!

Sailing and watches

The ship’s crew stand watch in three shifts. These shifts are called the Red Watch (from 12- 4 AM and PM), the White Watch (from 4-8 AM and PM) and the Blue Watch (from 8-12 AM and PM).

We welcome you to join one of these watches. This way you can fully experience how things work on a ship like the Stad Amsterdam. Setting or furling the sails, keeping lookout, setting the course or standing watch: you can participate in all of it.

As a member of the Red Watch you can enjoy the peacefulness of being at sea and the endless starry sky. In the White Watch you will experience the break of dawn like you never did before, whilst in the Blue Watch you can enjoy the sailing while maintaining a regular day and night rhythm.

An unforgettable experience

The meals are enjoyed together with the crew in the longroom at times adjusted to the watches. Every night the captain will give a short briefing of the mileage achieved on the day before, the mileage still to go and any other points of interest.

Imagine standing on the lookout surrounded by nothing but the sea. The waves, being rough every now and then, maybe some other ships and sometimes even dolphins playfully dancing just ahead of the bow. On the other hand, one could also relax reading a book in the long room. We have a well-stocked library on board.

Altogether ingredients for an unforgettable experience!
