City of gondolas

Every year a number of sailing trips are organized by the Clipper Stad Amsterdam. Whether you are an experienced sailor or not, we are more than pleased to invite you to join our crew on one of these adventurous sailing holidays.

It is the middle of summer when the Clipper is visiting the historical and world-famous Italian city of Venice. Who isn't familiar with the romantic images of the gondoliers sailing through the many canals Venice has to offer? Built in the middle of the Venetian Lagoon is making Venice one of the most extraordinary cities in the world which everyone has to see at least once in his or her life. Walk across Piazza San Marco with the beautiful basilica and climb the tower for a great view of the city. Explore the Canal Grande, sail under the famous Rialto Bridge and do not forget to walk across the bridge later on as well. The Palace "Palazzo Ducale", a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, will show the richness of a bygone era. From the Palace, you have an excellent view of the "Bridge of Sighs" which for centuries already connects the Palace with the prison.
And just think your sailing holiday hasn’t even started yet!

An unforgettable experience

Imagine standing on the lookout surrounded by nothing but the sea. The waves, being rough every now and then, maybe some other ships and sometimes even dolphins playfully dancing just ahead of the bow. On the other hand, one could also relax reading a book in the longroom. We have a well-stocked library on board.

The meals are enjoyed along with the crew in the longroom at times adjusted to the watches. Every night the captain will give a short briefing of the mileage achieved on the day before, the mileage still to go and any other points of interest.

All and all ingredients for an unforgettable experience!

Sailing and watches

The ship’s crew stands watch in three shifts. These shifts are called the Red Watch (from 12- 4 AM and PM), the White Watch (from 4-8 AM and PM) and the Blue Watch (from 8-12 AM and PM).

If you like, you can join one of these watches. This way you can fully experience the works on a ship like Stad Amsterdam. Setting the sails, keeping lookout, setting the course or standing watch: you can participate in all of it.

As a member of the Red Watch, you can admire the peacefulness of being at sea and the endless starry sky. In the White Watch you will experience the break of dawn like you never did before while in the Blue Watch you can enjoy the sailing while maintaining a regular day and night rhythm.

Palermo and Cagliari

You will be sailing non-stop for several days along with the Clipper crew. Enjoy the great view on deck, climb in one of the masts, hoist & stow sails and stand lookout. The passage of the - from a historical point of view - very important and stunning Strait of Messina will give you a perfect view of the coastline on both sides and of Europe's most active volcano, Mount Etna.

On Friday, July 26th the Clipper will moor in the harbour of Palermo for a visit to the capital of Sicily. The city of Palermo is noted for its history, culture, architecture and gastronomy.
The next day the Clipper will continue her voyage and after two more days of sailing, she will arrive at Cagliari on the island of Sardinia on July 29th. One last  night on board before your sailing adventure ends. However, a wonderful city is waiting to be explored. Cagliari, built on seven hills just like Rome, has fantastic historical buildings to offer such as the Duomo and Bastione San Remy, but also beautiful parks, gorgeous stretches of coastline, and a well-developed Marina.

We hope to see you on board again soon!
