Ostend - Bordeaux

Book this cruise

It is currently not allowed for the Clipper Stad Amsterdam as an international passenger ship to carry out a multi-day sailing trip with guests. We expect, based on the planned relaxation regarding the COVID-19 measures, that it will soon be possible to carry out the planned trip.

We offer you a 100% refund guarantee concerning the travel sum paid to us if it would not be possible to carry out the trip or if other unforeseen COVID-19-related situations of force majeure occur, which force us to cancel the trip.

Departure from Ostend

Every year a number of sailing trips are organized by the Clipper Stad Amsterdam. Whether you are an experienced sailor or not, we are more than pleased to invite you to join our crew on one of these adventurous sailing holidays.

Embark on the Clipper Stad Amsterdam and experience a unique sailing holiday!
On Friday afternoon, October  1st, the captain and his crew will welcome you onboard in Ostend, a city located halfway along the Belgian coast. The beautiful beach, some nice parks and gardens, good restaurants & shops, the Fort Napoleon and the three-masted former sail training vessel "Mercator" built in 1932 are just some suggestions for spending a few fun hours before embarkation.

Practical Information

Welcome on board

Before spending the first night in the port of Ostend in one of our comfortable cabins, you will meet the crew and the other guests and a delicious dinner will be served in our longroom. The captain will explain the safety regulations and he will give a short briefing about the route and the expected weather conditions. The next morning your sailing adventure will begin.

You will learn the ins and outs of sailing on a three-masted tallship on this voyage. Admire the wonderful view from the deck and experience what it feels like to have the wind through your hair while you climb the mast all the way to the top!

An unforgettable experience

Imagine standing on the lookout surrounded by nothing but the sea. The waves, being rough every now and then, maybe some other ships and sometimes even dolphins playfully dancing just ahead of the bow. On the other hand, one could also relax reading a book in the long room. We have a well-stocked library on board.

The meals are enjoyed together with the crew in the longroom at times adjusted to the watches. In the evening the captain will give a short briefing of the mileage achieved on the day before, the mileage still to go and any other points of interest.

Sailing and watches

The ship’s crew stand watch in three shifts. These shifts are called the Red Watch (from 12- 4 AM and PM), the White Watch (from 4-8 AM and PM) and the Blue Watch (from 8-12 AM and PM).

We welcome you to join one of these watches. This way you can fully experience how things work on a ship like the Stad Amsterdam. Setting or furling the sails, keeping lookout, setting the course or standing watch: you can participate in all of it.

As a member of the Red Watch you can enjoy the peacefulness of being at sea and the endless starry sky. In the White Watch you will experience the break of dawn like you never did before, whilst in the Blue Watch you can enjoy the sailing while maintaining a regular day and night rhythm.

After having covered more than 700 nautical miles including the final miles on the Gironde river, the Clipper will arrive in the port of the beautiful city of Bordeaux on Thursday evening October 7th.

In addition to the many wine attractions, there is much more to experience and do in this city! A large part of the Old Town has been declared a World Heritage Site since 2007 and the more than 300 protected monuments from the Middle Ages to the golden 18th century can be discovered during a special UNESCO walk. In addition, Bordeaux has beautiful shops, fine restaurants and picturesque squares. All this beauty is within reach the moment you disembark on Friday 8 October at 10:00 AM.

We hope that this sailing trip has been a unique and wonderful experience.
