Sailing from La Coruña to Las Palmas

December 2 - 11, 2022

Northern Spain - Canary Islands

Book this sailing adventure

Every year a number of adventurous sailing trips, city trips and luxury cruises are organized by the Clipper Stad Amsterdam. Whether you are an experienced sailor or not, we are always excited to invite you to welcome you on board for an amazing holiday

The Clipper Stad Amsterdam as an international passenger ship is still bound by the COVID measures prescribed by the Dutch government and the measures that still apply worldwide onboard international passenger ships. We offer you a 100% refund guarantee concerning the travel sum paid to us if it would not be possible to carry out the trip or if other unforeseen COVID-19-related situations of force majeure occur, which would force us to cancel the trip.

La Coruña

This sailing trip will take you from La Coruña in Spain to the Canary Islands much farther south. A somewhat unusual destination that combines culture with relaxation.

The city is located on a spit of land in the middle of two bays on the Atlantic Ocean, and is part of the scenic Rias Altas region. You'll find a long stretch of white sandy beach, fishing villages, and Europe's highest cliffs. The Tower of Hercules is the world's oldest working lighthouse, worth a visit before boarding the Clipper. Just an hour's drive from La Coruña you also find the famous pilgrimage town Santiago de Compostela.

Welcome on board

Early in the morning on December 3rd the fully rigged three-masted Clipper Stad Amsterdam sets sail for Las Palmas located on the island of Gran Canaria.

In about 8 days we sail non-stop for approximately 1025 nautical miles along the Spanish and Portuguese west coasts to the archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean west of Morocco and the Western Sahara.

As part of this voyage, you're welcome to help us to hoist the sails, stand on the lookout, steer or perhaps even work on the yards together with the crew. There's plenty of time to relax, read a book, enjoy the views and learn about many aspects of sailing on a tall ship.

Overwhelming Nature

Imagine standing on the lookout surrounded by nothing but the sea. Enjoy the peace and quietness around you, be completely disconnected from your maybe sometimes hectic life at home.

The waves, the sea being rough now and then, maybe some other ships and sometimes even dolphins playfully dancing just ahead of the bow and the experience of feeling so insignificant in the overwhelming nature.

The meals are enjoyed together with the crew in the longroom at times adjusted to the watches. Every night the captain will give a short briefing of the mileage achieved on a preceding day, the mileage still to go, and any other points of interest.

Sailing and watches

The ship’s crew stand watch in three shifts. These shifts are called the Red Watch (from 12- 4 AM and PM), the White Watch (from 4-8 AM and PM) and the Blue Watch (from 8-12 AM and PM).

You're more than welcome to join one of these watches. This way you can fully experience how things work on a ship like the Stad Amsterdam. Setting or furling the sails, keeping lookout, setting the course or standing watch: you can participate in all of it.

As a member of the Red Watch you can enjoy the peacefulness of being at sea and the endless starry sky. In the White Watch you will experience the break of dawn like you never did before, whilst in the Blue Watch you can enjoy the sailing while maintaining a regular day and night rhythm.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

We will reach Las Palmas' harbour on Saturday evening December 10 and after a memorable farewell dinner and a tasty breakfast it is time to disembark the ship at 10.00 am the following morning.

You could also decide to spend a few extra days in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and visit the Cathedral de Santa Ana or the narrow streets and cosy squares in the historic district of Vegueta. Or just to relax on the golden-yellow beach with the many palm trees. There are a few very interesting museums and many restaurants serving local specialities. The dunes of Maspalomas and Roque Nublo are also worth a visit.
