Sailing from The Netherlands to Spain

November 22 - 30, 2022

IJmuiden - La Coruña

Book this trip

The Clipper Stad Amsterdam as an international passenger ship is still bound by the COVID measures prescribed by the Dutch government and the measures that still apply worldwide onboard international passenger ships. We offer you a 100% refund guarantee concerning the travel sum paid to us if it would not be possible to carry out the trip or if other unforeseen COVID-19-related situations of force majeure occur, which would force us to cancel the trip.

Towards the North Sea

Every year a number of sailing trips are organized by the Clipper Stad Amsterdam. Whether you are an experienced sailor or not, we are more than pleased to invite you  on one of our adventurous sailing holidays.

After almost a month in The Netherlands, the Clipper Stad Amsterdam is heading south again on November 22nd. IJmuiden, one of the world's largest fishing ports, will be the port of embarkation. Sail with us through the English Channel, along Finistère in France, and the Gulf of Biscay to finally arrive at La Coruña located in the extreme northwest of Spain.

Practical Information

A wonderful sailing experience

Your first night onboard will begin with a tasty dinner and a comfortable cabin. The crew will prepare the ship for departure the following morning. On this multi-day non-stop sailing trip, we will cover a distance of about 800 nautical miles in about 7 days.

On this voyage, you'll be able to learn the ins and outs of sailing on a three-masted tallship. Enjoy the beautiful scenery from the deck and when you're keen, climb the mast to the top and feel the wind through your hair!

An unforgettable experience

Imagine standing on the lookout surrounded by nothing but the sea. The waves,  the sea being rough now and then, maybe some other ships and sometimes even dolphins playfully dancing just ahead of the bow and the experience of feeling so insignificant in the overwhelming nature.
Enjoy the peace and quietness around you, be completely disconnected from our hectic lives at home, find the time to relax on the deck or in the longroom with a book from our well-stocked library, and have interesting conversations with the crew and the other guests.

The meals are enjoyed together with the crew in the longroom at times adjusted to the watches. Every night the captain will give a short briefing of the mileage achieved on a preceding day, the mileage still to go, and any other points of interest.

Sailing and watches

The ship’s crew stand watch in three shifts. These shifts are called the Red Watch (from 12- 4 AM and PM), the White Watch (from 4-8 AM and PM) and the Blue Watch (from 8-12 AM and PM).

You're welcome to join the crew on one of these watches. This way you can fully experience how things work on board, like setting or furling the sails, keeping lookout, set the course or standing watch.

As a member of the Red Watch you can enjoy the peacefulness of being at sea and an endless starry sky. In the White Watch you will experience the break of dawn like you never did before, whilst in the Blue Watch you'll enjoy sailing while maintaining a regular day and night rhythm.

La Coruña

On Tuesday November 29th in the late afternoon, the Stad Amsterdam arrives in La Coruña. The city is located on a spit of land in the middle of two bays on the Atlantic Ocean, and is part of the scenic Rias Altas region. You'll find a long stretch of beach, fishing villages, and Europe's highest cliffs along this coast. All this is within reach the moment you disembark the next morning.

Apart from climbing the oldest working lighthouse in the world - the Tower of Hercules - the city offers much more in terms of culture, entertainment, and relaxation. Do you know that La Coruña is just an hour's drive from the famous pilgrimage town of Santiago de Compostela?

We hope this trip will be an unforgettable and wonderful experience.
