Sailing from Ibiza (Spain) to Bari (Italy)

June 25 - July 4, 2019

Boook this trip

Strait of Messina

Every year a number of sailing trips are organized by the Clipper Stad Amsterdam. Whether you are an experienced sailor or not, we are more than pleased to invite you to join our crew on one of these adventurous sailing holidays.

In June the Clipper Stad Amsterdam will have a perfect mooring spot near the Old Town on the Spanish island Ibiza. The sun will be shining abundantly in this part of the Mediterranean with very pleasant temperatures as a result. The nice shops and cosy terraces in the narrow streets of the Old Town are only a short distance from the ship. When you decide to climb the many stairs to the castle that rises high above the town, a beautiful view will be your reward.

When you have some extra time, you may want to go for a walk or bike ride and enjoy nature. The white sandy beaches in combination with a refreshing dip in the azure blue sea water and visits to the impressive islands such as Es Vedra and Formentera are just a few of the many possibilities the island has to offer.

Welcome on board

The captain and crew of the Clipper will welcome you on board on June 25 in the afternoon. After a delicious dinner, you will spend your first night in one of our 14 comfortable cabins. The next morning the Clipper will depart.

This will be the start of a very special sailing trip that will take you from Spain and along Sicily to Bari in the Southern part of Italy at the Adriatic Sea. The passage of the - from a historical point of view - very important and stunning Strait of Messina will give you a perfect view of the coastline on both sides and of Europe's most active volcano, Mount Etna.

Ibiza - Old Town - Clipper Stad Amsterdam

An unforgettable experience

Imagine standing on the lookout surrounded by nothing but the sea. The waves, being rough every now and then, maybe some other ships and sometimes even dolphins playfully dancing just ahead of the bow. On the other hand, one could also relax reading a book in the long room. We have a well-stocked library on board.

The meals are enjoyed along with the crew in the long room at times adjusted to the watches. Every night the captain will give a short briefing of the mileage achieved on the day before, the mileage still to go and any other points of interest.

All and all ingredients for an unforgettable experience!

Sailing and watches

The ship’s crew stands watch in three shifts. These shifts are called the Red Watch (from 12- 4 AM and PM), the White Watch (from 4-8 AM and PM) and the Blue Watch (from 8-12 AM and PM).

If you like, you can join one of these watches. This way you can fully experience the works on a ship like Stad Amsterdam. Setting the sails, keeping the lookout, setting the course or standing watch: you can participate in all of it.

As a member of the Red Watch, you can admire the peacefulness of being at sea and the endless starry sky. In the White Watch you will experience the break of dawn like you never did before while in the Blue Watch you can enjoy the sailing while maintaining a regular day and night rhythm.

Bari in Southern Italy

Non-stop sailing for more than 7 days together with the Clipper crew, enjoying the fantastic view from the deck and climbing in one of the masts is just a small selection of the many possibilities the Clipper Stad Amsterdam has to offer.

On Wednesday, July 3 the Clipper will arrive at Bari in Italy. This harbour town, located in the region of Puglia in the south of Italy, has a wonderful old city centre which consists of a maze of small alleys. There are ancient churches - the crypt of “Sinterklaas” or St. Nicolas can be visited - and rustic courtyards. Fresh fish is sold on the streets where pasta is prepared as well. Don’t forget to visit the characteristic cone-roofed houses of Alberobello, the Trulli's: a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. And what about a visit to Matera; European Capital of Culture 2019!

Two wonderful Mediterranean destinations, Spain and Italy (!) combined in just one trip! What a great start of the summer!
