Cagliari, capital of Sardinia

Every year a number of sailing trips are organized by the Clipper Stad Amsterdam. Whether you are an experienced sailor or not, we are more than pleased to invite you to join our crew on one of these adventurous sailing holidays.

The Clipper will be visiting Cagliari on the southern part of the beautiful island of Sardinia for the first time. The city built on seven hills - just like Rome - has fantastic historical buildings to offer such as the Duomo and Bastione San Remy, but also beautiful parks, gorgeous stretches of coastline, exotic beaches nearby and a well-developed Marina.

On July 31st of July, the Clipper crew will welcome you on board the unique sailing ship Stad Amsterdam. While the sun is shining and the temperature is high, a welcome drink at the outside bar will be refreshing and delicious. Dinner will be served soon after.

680 Nautical Miles to Malaga

During the first part of this trip, the Clipper will sail on the Mediterranean sea, south of the Balearic islands Mallorca & Ibiza and will arrive in Malaga on August 6th.

This sixth largest city of Spain located at the Costa del Sol is surrounded by mountains and only 100 kilometres away from the Strait of Gibraltar. Malaga is a bustling city and a wonderful place to spend a few hours. Enjoy the relaxing atmosphere so typical of Andalusia.

The Clipper will leave the harbor of Malaga the next day in the afternoon to continue her voyage to Porto; another 530 nautical miles to go!

An unforgettable experience

Imagine standing on the lookout surrounded by nothing but the sea. The waves, being rough every now and then, maybe some other ships and sometimes even dolphins playfully dancing just ahead of the bow. On the other hand, one could also relax reading a book in the longroom. We have a well-stocked library on board.

The meals are enjoyed along with the crew in the longroom at times adjusted to the watches. Every night the captain will give a short briefing of the mileage achieved on the day before, the mileage still to go and any other points of interest.

All and all ingredients for an unforgettable experience!

Sailing and watches

The ship’s crew stands watch in three shifts. These shifts are called the Red Watch (from 12- 4 AM and PM), the White Watch (from 4-8 AM and PM) and the Blue Watch (from 8-12 AM and PM).

If you like, you can join one of these watches. This way you can fully experience the works on a ship like Stad Amsterdam. Setting the sails, keeping lookout, setting the course or standing watch: you can participate in all of it.

As a member of the Red Watch, you can admire the peacefulness of being at sea and the endless starry sky. In the White Watch you will experience the break of dawn like you never did before while in the Blue Watch you can enjoy the sailing while maintaining a regular day and night rhythm.

Strait of Gibraltar & Porto

One of the highlights of this trip will be sailing through the Strait of Gibraltar where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. Enjoy the stunning view of the southern coast of Spain and the northern coast of Morocco at the same time from the deck or high up in one of the masts.

You will be sailing non-stop for another few days along with the Clipper crew. Enjoy the great view on deck, climb in one of the masts, hoist & stow sails, stand lookout and learn about sailing a tallship.

On Sunday, August 11th, the Clipper will be mooring in Leixous which is the harbor of Porto. This city on the North bank of the river Douro has much to offer! A perfect end to your sailing adventure will be a stroll through one of the oldest European centres (registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and a tasting of the famous Port(o) wine.
