Crew in action

The crew consists of 30 experienced yachtsmen. The captain supervises the crew together with three or four officers. The nautical crew (hoisting sails, navigation, etc.) is the largest and the hospitality crew varies per event. The technical team consists of 3 people.
 

The men and women who form the crew are mostly from the Netherlands, Denmark and Great Britain. English is the main language spoken on board.

Captain Richard Slootweg

Starting twenty years ago on inland waterways, but rapidly crossing the oceans of the world as captain of vessels such as the Swan fan Makkum. His contribution to the Clipper Stad Amsterdam since January 2004 is second to none: his experience with guests in the Caribbean, his knowlegde of the market, new ideas and last but not least his excellent nautical skills. 

Captain Andi Manser

Andi Manser is born in Switzerland. In the hope of sailing the seas he rode all the way from Switserland to the Netherlands on a bicycle. He has a long history as captain / owner on the Topsail Schooner “Jacob Meindert” and captain of the Brigantine “Swan fan Makkum”. He will use all his experience as a captain on board the Clipper Stad Amsterdam.

Hotel Manager Arjen Meijer

After receiving his high school diploma at the grammar-school in Haarlem, Arjan decided to take some time reflecting on what subjects he would take at university. He ended up in Curacao as a deck hand on the Schooner the “Bounty”. This is where it occurred that there could be a future in combining the freedom that comes with the sailing world and the international aspect of the hospitality business. Thus inspired he enrolled at the Hotelschool the Hague, where he graduated in 2007. When, after working on shore for several years, the position for Hotel Manager onboard of the Clipper Stad Amsterdam became vacant, it was the chance to fulfill his objective formulated 10 years before and he seized the opportunity full heartedly.

Hotel Manager Amanda Jonathans

When Amanda returned from an internship in London, which completed her program at the Hospitality School, she joined the hospitality team on board of the Clipper Stad Amsterdam. After a year she decided to further her education at the higher Hospitality School in Leeuwarden. During her study she has always said that if she got the chance to become the Hotel Manager on board she will would grab it at both hands!
And so it happened, when the vacancy for Hotel Manager came up during the final stage of her education. Obviously Amanda applied, because this is the job of her dreams; a unique combination between work that energizes, spare time and the adventurous sailing lifestyle.
