Close Hauled

The waypoints that we have to follow give us no other choice then to go the right way around. A low pressure area is developing just in the middle of our circle. That means a lot of headwinds. We have been sailing close hauled for about 24 hours and that is not easy in the middle of the other square-riggers. Our nearest competition is the Dutch sailing vessel Eendracht. This schooner is very fast on the close hauled tracks. We have to use all we can to keep up with her.
With this wind angle the ship heels constantly. Today a jar with honey slid on the lap of one of our trainees. The Trainee shifted his eyes between the dirty foul weather gear and the guilty person on the opposite of the table. Trainee took a lump of bread and cleaned the pants with it. Problem solved!
