The past year we have been around the world for VPRO television to see what the difference was between the voyage of Charles Darwin on HMS Beagle and the same voyage in 2009 / 2010. After one year we are passing trough Dutch waters, for the first time on, our way to Norway. We were asked to conduct a boat transfer for some passengers so we approached Den Helder by the Schulpengat. At 09.00 we met the “Stern” from the NIOZ. From far away we could already see him: White sideburns and white hair, a photocamera around his neck and a black Péret on his head. Redmond O’Hanlon is returning to the Clipper Stad Amsterdam. Beside him we see Hans Fels looking at the Clipper like he was in love. The reunion was a great pleasure. Now they are filming on deck as they were never gone. Are they making more episodes for the Beagle? Will I answer the question “Are you the captain of the Beagle” for many years? We will see...
