AIS
This morning at 08.00 we passed the dove strait. It is only 18 miles between the two shores and both were clearly visible. It is a very busy fairway and it is good that all passenger vessels and all vessels over 500 GT have an AIS. This Automatic Identification System sends and receives all sort of data about our ship to everybody in VHF range. On the ocean the screen can be empty for many days but in the Dover strait and the North Sea it is like in the picture. The mates have an challenging watch.
