Azores

Last night Pico was visible from the ship. This mountain, with the same name as the island on which it is located, reaches 2.351 meters above sea level and forms a natural beacon with its perfect conic shape. Currently we have left this volcano behind us, far beyond our sight. But the silhouette of the island Sao Miguel can still be seen on starboard.  In addition to yesterdays log entry, we can add a group of whales to our list of sightings. This afternoon two pigeons landed on deck, but without a branch in their beaks so there is no religious relevance to be suspected.
Floris, our 3rd Mate, left his watch duties to ‘yours truly’ this morning. This allowed him to finish the deck tent he was making for our poop deck. Such a tent protects our deck from the sun, but doesn’t last for 10 years. It the end of the morning it was time for its first fitting. We left on our world voyage with just some canvas and thread and will return with a newly made deck tent.
