Leeuwin II
We had an appointment for Sunday to arrive in Fremantle together with STS “Leeuwin II”. We had to change these plans since there were so many cruise liners berthed in port that we are only allowed to enter port in the evening. Yesterday we discovered the vessel in Geographe Bay, some 100 miles south of Fremantle. The vessel was anchored there. This morning they heaved up anchor in order to sail the last miles to the north. Since entering port together was not the case anymore we decided to sail along together. Onboard both vessels the gun was loaded in order to fire a salute when passing by.
This barquentine was built in 1986 and she is the largest sail training vessel in Australia. She can carry 15 crew and 40 trainees. Tomorrow we will drop anchor alongside each other. Unfortunately they have a private berth and so they are allowed to enter port earlier.
Fremantle will be our last stopover in Australia. Tuesday the 16th we will commence the next crossing. Crossing the Indian Ocean to Mauritius.
