Firework
We already know the effect of phosphorescent algae, because these are algae’s are also occur in our own waters. But what we saw last night was again, something really different. This phenomenon, on the North Sea, is best seen at the bow, where dead algae’s in turmoil briefly show some light. This gives a green, lightning glow around the prow.
Last night, some of the crew were looking at the wake of the ship and saw here and there under water bright flashes of light. Round spots which give bright light just for a short period. Now and then just behind the ship and sometimes 20 meters behind us.
The Sunday gives some people the opportunity to do something different than the rest of the week. Today we saw mechanics and sailors working with the sextant, the third mate sewed a piece of the awning and the bosun was baking pancakes for lunch.
Also the Beagle crew have surrendered themselves to our Sundays. It was time for a book and a place for the hammock. Tomorrow begins a new week.
