The exhausting program the Clipper had to fulfill in and around Venice made the departure from this magnificent city even attractive. The reduction from hundred and fifty persons on board to a sixth of it made the ship quiet and peaceful in a way that wasn’t experienced in a while.
Meanwhile the Adriatic and Ionian Sea are astern of us of which the first mentioned saw our sails over the main part of it. We may be happy about this because we are in a hurry to our next destination and the Adriatic Sea is known for her usual weak winds. Messina Strait is some hours ahead of us. If we can keep up the present speed we may be lucky to see the fireworks of the volcano at Stromboli before twilight.
