Valencia to Lisbon

It was a very successful trip with many faces (a crew of 25). The ship with all its sails is impressive. A full rigged sailing ship is a special thing indeed. It took a while for me to understand all the lines, sheets and halyards but if you pay attention the skill can be mastered easily. Many maneuvers and sail handling is done the traditional way, with muscle and sweat. I truly liked to sail with this international crew and join in their watches. Everything is explained well, there is a healthy team spirit on board and everybody’s working hard. All that physical exercise raises a healthy appetite but Simon the cook knew how to take care of this. Besides all the work there is plenty of time to relax on the deck or in the cabin.
The nicest of the journey was the evening watch from 8 till 12 PM, force 7 beau fort sailing 60 degrees to the wind, enjoyable sea state, great speed and…. full moon. I found this a great experience that I can recommend to every (seagoing) sailor. Apply for a trip like this and you will not be sorry. I wish Cosmo and his crew a great season and a safe sail.
