Valencia to Lisbon

From passing Cape Sao Vicente yesterday morning on we have begun sailing our way up into the Portuguese North. We still have a couple of days before we are expected in Lisbon so sailing is of course preferable to beat up your way into the wind using the engine. The Portuguese North is a northerly wind caused by the circulation round the Azores high pressure area. Directed by the steep Portuguese west coast the wind keeps following the coastline southwards. In early times this wind enabled the Portuguese explorers to venture south. The way back, as we experience today, will have been a matter of patience.
