Valencia to Lisbon

This morning the wind finally turns to the right corner, an easterly wind force 5 funnels through Gibraltar Strait and we are more than happy to take advantage of it. When we pass Isla de Tarifa, the southernmost appendix of the Spanish mainland, we are being followed by the freighter ‘Antje’ which is making a speed of 10 knots and coming closer every minute. Our crew takes the challenge and within no time all available canvas is set. For a short moment it looks that our over taker gets the worst of it but the ‘Antje’ decides to squeeze out a few extra drops of diesel and at last we have to throw in the towel. 12 knots of speed is more than what we can deliver today. In the evening the party is over, the wind dies down and with our engine slow ahead we keep our hopes up for more luck tomorrow.
