Underway from Leixoes to Oostende
When the command: "Let go anchor" sounds on Friday night we have made a journey of more than 1000 miles. The original planning was based on 900 miles but in order to get a better angle to the wind we have made a sort of a detour on the lap through the bay of Biscay. The average speed of the whole journey is close to eight miles an hour but the 400 mile passage of the Bay of Biscay was made in little less than thirty hours. The voyage through the English channel with lighter winds certainly made our average come down. The voyage lasted 130 hours of which 13 hours were under engine power. All great numbers of course but what counts most is that we had a wonderful time with the pupils of the Nova Maritime college; in every way they were helpful and ready to assist and in return they were explained all the details and ins and outs of the ship by our motivated crew. Before us we have a couple of weeks filled with daytrips, here it is impossible to share our ship in the same intensive way but it nevertheless still satisfies to offer these short familiarizing trips on the Clipper.
