10 years Clipper Stad

The Clipper celebrates its 10th anniversary this month! In June 2000 Stad Amsterdam was christened by Mrs. Ria Kok, the wife of the former Dutch prime minister Mr. Wim Kok.

After a construction period of three years the vessel was presented to the Dutch public during Sail Amsterdam 2000. Several hundred unemployed youngsters gained their first work experience during the construction. Both founders Randstad and municipality of Amsterdam are still very much involved today.

Ten years – and tenths of thousands nautical miles – underway it goes without saying that the Clipper is present during the major Tall Ship events around the World. Thousands of people have visited the ship over the years during an port events, for a day trips and sailing voyages. And each year a group of youngsters embark to participate in the Tall Ship Races.

The first years the vessel was mostly seen around the North Atlantic Ocean: on the North Sea, the Baltic, the Mediterranean, de Gulf of Mexico, at the American East coast and in the Caribbean. During the recent Beagle-voyage new regions were added to the itinerary: the Pacific, the Indian Ocean and the South Atlantic Ocean. An unforgettable experience for those on board. And watched by many on TV and the internet.

For the first time since 2008 the Clipper will stay in The Netherlands for several weeks. In 2009 the vessel was in Dutch waters for just four days during DelfSail. But for its tenth anniversary the Clipper will stay in The Netherlands a bit longer. First stop is Sail Amsterdam, leading the Parade of Sail which opens the event. You are invited to visit the ship during Sail every morning between 08.30 and 12.30 hrs. Welcome on board!
